1. Milo 

It was about 7 years old when my mom adopted an orange tabby named Samwell (Milo when he was home). He was nervous, and goofy. Back in September of 2025, he died of cancer only at 6. Even before this happened, I was thinking of adding Milo to the story but I still didn't know where he'd fit in. Soon after he died, I knew where he belonged in this story...

2. Quince

Quince was named after Peter Quince from Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream play. Quince (the wolf) is going to an overprotective cousin who is brave and grumpy. He appears towards the end of the book. 

3. Jasper

Quince's little cousin is Jasper. I originally wanted Jasper to be a wolf but, after I finished a scene where Quince says that Jasper has rabies, I wanted Jasper to look very different from the other wolves. This is during the time when wolves where being domesticated. Jasper's line eventually leads to the Golden Retriever dog. 

4. Hera

    In book 2, we meet a very beautiful wolf named Hera. She is named after the greek goddess. I didn't want Venus or Aphrodite because her name just does not fit the character. Her character design was based off my cat, Juniper and also the tuxedo cat.

5. Coral

Adder's long lost mate is Coral. Coral is an Ice Age animal called a cave lion.
